We love having a large heard of horses at the refuge but the work is unsustainable during the winter months. We need to find new foster homes or volunteers and sponsors for several of our larger horses before winter
Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of all the Epona horses
Foster families must be active members and live within easy reach of the refuge

Small donations make a big difference
Please join us. We have, and with your help, will continue to change the fortunes of so many equine lives across Europe. Today we are raising money to benefit The Epona Trust, and any donation, however small, will help make an impact. So THANK-YOU to those who can and if not please help us by sharing this fund raising awareness, challenge for the Epona Horses and those to come. Here is the challenge, this week we are ordering our winter stock of hay and we need your help. The cost of our hay delivery in France, has risen dramatically and is now £2500 and we are asking for your contribution to this cause, and being a small charity this means so much to so many of our sanctuary animals. Please know we thank you for your donations however small. The Epona Trust: UK based charity working throughout Europe helping secure the future of animals in need. Our farm in Normandy is home to more than 60 equines, we provide emergency cover and permanent lifelong care for the most vulnerable equines. Many of the animals at the home farm are unable to work due to injury or advanced years. Many horses and donkeys are here because they have outlived their owners or they have been abandoned, The Epona Trust is committed to giving the needs animals a secure and loving future.
The weather has been disastrous this year; either too hot or too cold, but rarely perfect for the most fragile. We have around 30 equines on site, of these 11 horses and ponies over 25 years old. and 4 younger disabled animals. Volunteers have dried up, so please think of helping us out when you have some spare time. Our tractor is on its last legs., so if you are selling up, and you have a tractor to dispose of we are open to offers.

Our lovely house is available for longer stays. During the summer months, the minimum stay is 2 weeks. If you are looking for somewhere to live in lower Normandy our house is in the perfect location to use as a base to go house hunting. The Epona Trust was founded by Ann Heighington in 1997.
A UK registered charity since 1997, and a French association since 2007, the Epona shelter takes in old or sick horses, ponies and donkeys, or quite simply those who no longer have a roof over their heads.The shelter has no financial income and operates thanks to donations from the public and the help of a few volunteers.
Association caritative enregistrée au Royaume-Uni depuis 1997 et association française depuis 2007, le refuge d'Épona accueille des chevaux, poneys et ânes âgés ou malades, ou tout simplement ceux qui n'ont plus de toit.
Le refuge ne perçoit aucun revenu et fonctionne grâce aux dons du public et à l'aide de quelques bénévoles.
